    Wiping the needle often with a 1 inch square piece of batting with a drop of hand sanitizer (which is mainly alcohol) is helping!

    I just use large safety pins to sandwich my quilts together. I quilt with a size 16 organ needle. No problems at all.

    I use sewing machine oil on my needle off and on while sewing, if I have used canned basting spray. Otherwise, I use Elmer's o most of my quilts with no problem. I also use a 90/14 topstitcb needle. Good luck

    I have quit using basting spray on quilts before FMQ. I went back to the old pin method, works for me. I do feel your frustration though.
