I washed my ties on a regular wash cycle and dried them in the dryer before cutting them open, because I wanted the quilt to be machine washable. The silk ties get a little roughed up this way, but it's a small payoff to have a washable quilt. If the ties are heirlooms to be preserved, it's probably better to wash everything in a cold, gentle wash cycle. I did try to cut the ties in somewhat straight strips, avoiding the seams that are in the middle of the tie. Since the strips were sewn to muslin squares, I wasn't concerned with cutting the strips exactly equal. Thanks, everyone, for the compliments!

Love the quilts! Hope they enjoy their treasures. Does the tie quilt need special laundering instructions?
