Lap Quilt for Wheelchairs

Thanks for sharing that, aasheley and twhvlr. I'll pass it on to our guild's community service group.
I took my "Lovie Lap Quilt" to the nursing home down the street. (My dad and ex-husband were both there, but about 15 years apart, so I am familiar with the staff that has been there for many years.)
My first concern was that those places are so hot, they might not really need a wheelchair quilt (This is Texas, and we rarely get really cold, plus they are always really warm to me.) Betty, the receptionist, who has been there at least since 2003, quickly informed me the residents are always cold.
I was too short even for little ol' ladies.. The nurses suggested that it be longer, both at top and bottom. They suggested a cut out for the neck, so that the top came up around the neck and almost covered the shoulders. They also suggested that the hand warming section be larger (as in wider), so that any bare arms were covered.
I'm going to work on making a pattern that works better for the person in the chair. I'll share that when I get the prototype constructed.
