Lone Star

Very beautiful quilt. You did a great job. I don't see any points that don't match. This is one that I plan to make this year. Was it hard? I have always wanted a lone star quilt. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Rebecca, I'm not sure what the history of the Buckeye Beauty is. I have seen other versions using a more controlled fabric selection. I wanted to try it with a scrappy look using warm browns, golds, creams, rusts, and punches of blue, green, and maroon. I took this shot so I could remember the layout as my kitty's tend to "rearrange" the layout while playing. The final look had a 2 1/2 inch black boarder and a final 5 inch border of a fall leave print. I have it loaded on the quilting frame now, it took a while to rip out all the thread from my first attempt at quilting it. If you got to webshot.com and enter Buckeye Beauty, you can see many different versions, alot of fun to make!

Vicky, your lone star is beautiful, i made the star but couldn't get it to come together in the middle with the diamonds ,i tore it out several times then gave up. i did find apattern out of 1/2 sqr. tria. and have made three of those, it makes a beautiful quilt

Thanks so much for the info. I was drawn to the name of the quilt, from my Grandfather, who always carried a Buckeye in his pocket for goodluck. And I did'nt know there was a quilt with the name. I will look at that web-site. It created some very warm and wonderful memories for me.

esterb you mentioned that you had made some of these stars out of half squares. I'd really be interested in the pattern. As I said I've been wanting to make one of these for a long time but I'm just afraid that it wouldn't turn out right. I'm pretty good at half squares so that might be easier for me.
