Greetings from Sacramento California. It sounds like the spoon method may be similar to the "Aunt Becky" method of quilting. It uses a tool that you lift up and drop down in quick succession and it picks up the stitches. The needle doesn't move. Well - when I do it, the needle still moves. I am hopeless. lol

Since Hetty is probably in bed right now time difference, I looked up spoon quilting. Jinny Beyer has a tip about it on her website. You use a spoon under the quilt instead of getting your fingers stuck with needle you push up with the spoon to quilt.
