I found out that I need to clean out the dust bunnies often as they cause the laptop to over heat and crash. Make sure you clean out the fan and vents often. The hard drives on a laptop doesn't last as long as a regular computer because of the heat and we always get extented warranties.

Now that you have that done, you should go ahead and make some back up cd's or DVD's. In the event that this ever happen again (heaven forbid), at least you will have a back up of everything on your laptop if you only need to get a new hard drive! I am only saying this, because I am speaking from experience! There are only 2 or 3 programs that I do not have anymore, but that is not important anymore!

I was able to get most of my files off while it was still in its temperamental phase. I got a 2nd laptop last spring as a backup. The neat new thing I discovered is that since both of them are wireless, they can "talk" to each other when they are close and zap files and even programs back and forth.
Lest anyone think I am wealthy beyond belief, having 2 laptops, let me say, first one was a free hand-me-down, 2nd one cost $160 on ebay. Cheaper than a netbook!!

Yes, sounds like a disk clean - up and a defragmentation might be in order as well. If you haven't got it automatically set up, you go to All programs - Accessories- Systems Tools. Then you will find Disk Clean Up. Click on that and it will take a few minutes, depending on how long ago you previously did it (and your internet activity). It will then tell you how many unnecessary files you can get rid of. Then go to Disk Defragmenter, which is just below Disk Clean up and follow the instructions for that as well. If you do this on a regular basis, it keeps your computer running smoothly.

I run a scan and clean up-especially cookies, every 4 days.
