maybe a frame for a sewing basket? Looks like it could open up more than it is in the first photo.

Thanks jlong, that is it. You must have had some clue...I would have NEVER guessed that it was a foot stool. I have seen many antiques,having been a dealer for many years, but nothing like this. I am still not sure exatcly how you are supposed to put your legs on it......lol! The picture on the site looks like it is leaning against a wall. Hmmmm

I think its a stool when they used to used to tie women to and force feed them chocolate so that future generations of women would crave chocolate and sense men controlled the chocolate they could control the women sound good?
