Hare you tried lifting each machine and moving it to a lower and then highter spot? That is how I made the decision to buy mine. I simply picked the one I could handle the easiest.

I have arthritis in my shoulders and back. I can tell you - 4 lbs. makes a whole lot of difference. How did you get the opportunity to buy the Janome for $100?

As much as I love those old Singer machines, you might be better off with the Jamone. It has many different stitches. If you think you need something other than a straight stitch, go with the Janome. Many times in classes, you need more than just the straight stitch.

Thanks for asking this question. I have a Pfaff Creative 4.0. It is absolutely a fabulous machine, but it is BIG and HEAVY. I have a rolling case, but you can't alway roll everywhere. I pulled a muscle wrestling it out of my car. I have been thinking of buying a smaller light weight sewing machine. FW are getting out of reach. I am going to look at the Janome. It sounds like the perfect little machine.

If you want a machine that will last, get the 301.

If you want a light weight machine that will serve the purpose for now, get the other one.

    Or get both.

ps: repairs will be more expensive for the janome.
