Yes, I did a slice and resew number but no foundation as I was using crumbs of all sizes, shapes and wanted some lopsidedness to it or a little wonky. I eyeballed the pieces I was using so I could chainsew bunches and offset each strip so that it fit my cardboard template perfect (5.5"). It worked great that way. Then slice the block in half on the diagonal in opposite corners from your strips. Resew to another 1/2 block. However, if you want your strips all perfectly spaced, cut exactly right, then I suggest using a muslin foundation if you don't want that slightly wonky look. I forgot to say when you get done with your block, place the template on top of your sewn strips and cut out the block and then slice it in half. This method will use up lots of strips and we sure get inundated with strips!

If you don't want to eyeball it, then separate your strips in 3 piles: longest, med. and short ones. Lay the strips on top of your template to make sure your base is all covered and then sew them together. Voila! It was fun and easy strip piecing these! It's a no brainer, non-thinking task. Have fun with it! Thank you, raedar! Great question!

The 2nd pic turned out dark. I found 2 to give you an idea. I quickly threw these on the design wall. Will take better pics in the morning. The first pic is a good example of putting together really busy fabrics in your block; the busier, the better. Thank you, Janet!!

Great quilt. I really reminds me of the quilts from the 1800's early 1900. Can't wait to see it finished.

I love the look of the top picture. you did a great job. had you given any thought to alternating the blocks vertical and horizontal? just a thought. i think the black background blocks will work great
