Hi again,
I wanted to also share with you that while I learned hand piecing and quilting back in the early 1970's from my Nanny (dear grandma); I hadn't done anything with it until about 3 years ago. I then got on-line, found a lot of great web sites with free information on all the basics, bought some great quilt magazines and books, and started in on it again on my own...also at that time found out that machine quilting had become quite popular, and I really was interested in learning all about that...again, great web sites and books/magazines to the rescue!! . Finally about 2 years ago, I found a wonderful lqs (locas quilt shop), after visiting with the owner, I decided to join in on their newest quilting project...which just happened to be the quilt that is pictured in my avatar...I kid you not!! Now she knew that I knew the basics, and was mostly a hand quilter...but she said she thought I could do it...so, there I went!..lol... The 1st class for me was actually the 7th lesson (yep, 7th...have I mentioned my "loony-toonyness??) of the sampler quilt (it is a "skill a month" quilt, 10 month series to make the sampler quilt, by Sandi Ray). That 1st lesson for me was on paper-piecing a sun block (looks like a New York Beauty), to get the perfect points, and also learn curved piecing...I'm toony, don't forget!! Well, there I was with my lil nervous self...and when the lesson started, I thought about yelling "Fire!" and making a run for it! But, there were only 4 other ladies there besides the teacher, and they were all so friendly and welcoming that I found myself having a great time! I actually then came home, and sat down with the pattern and the info the teacher had given, and made that block! I finished the last 2 block lessons with the others, and while they were all catching up and finishing all of the blocks included in prior lessons; the teacher went back with me, one-on-one and I was then able to come home and complete all the blocks in the 6 prior lessons. The 10th and final lesson was putting all of the blocks together, and we all did that together...Now if I could just get fmq (free motion quilting) down and quilt it...that's another story.. So, that is how I really got "hooked" into quilting! I have lots of great books that are wonderful references, my "quilty sisters" at my local quilt group, and of course the internet and this great board that all are awesome resources/support! Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to encourage you, and anyone, that if I can do it, you can do it!! I buy a lot of my books on Amazon, they have great prices, and every book I have bought there, new or used has been in great shape! Also Connectingthreads.com at times will run a sale of 40% off all of their books, and they have a ton of them! Finally (), here are a couple of links to books that I have that I think are great for all quilting info, the 1st one is one of my favorites:
http://www.amazon.com/All-About-Quil...7780461&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.com/Quilting-Tips-...780493&sr=8-12
Take care all,
Kif (aka windbag...lol)

Hey Lady, thanks for the info on the books - I'll check them out! You are a hoot! LOL Sounds like some of my experiences - I always seem to just jump right in before checking to see how deep the pond is! I see you are in Texas - I am about 45 min. outside of Fort Worth and I found a wonderful quilt shop today. Have been to several but have seen nothing yet to compare to this one. Oh my they had the material! Such beautiful patterns! Also have a web site - The Cabbage Rose on Montgomery St. If you are ever over that way check it out! Cara
