Nice job on your first try. You will get better just as anything about quilting. I love paper piecing because it is so accurate. There should not be any squaring up necessary because the outside line is the cutting line and there won't be any points cut off because you are sewing right on the line. I took a Judy Niemeyer class and her method is very good. There is an excellent step-by-step on her website. Go to www.quiltworx.com, look for Technique, under that look for learn more in blue letters. The two most important tools for me are: fold back straight edge (factory edge of a piece of template plastic) and an add-a-quarter ruler. Her patterns are pricey but worth it because they include cutting templates. The fabric pieces are always the right size. No more holding up to the light to see if it's big enough. Too small pieces; the main cause of frustration when paper piecing. Hope you see this and it helps you.

Thanks for all this wonderful advice! Peggi-Peckish uses the fold back method and suggested it to me. I'm half way through my DJ block and I just love that method... very accurate.

Love your square. Colors really pop. Love PP and can't understand why others don't, but then I'm not interested in other techniques.
