These are just darling!! Your family will be so happy to display these for many years! Did you use a commercial pattern or kit, or figure all that out yourself? I am curious - would like to make something like that for my little grandchildren!!

Thank you all for the compliments. I made them from a pattern that was at a small quilt shop in Oregon, the pattern is from 2007 so I don't know if is would still be available or not. It measures 30 wide by 34 long. The hardest part is finding the lights the pattern calls for 100 battery operated 'rice' lights which means the light is the size of a grain of rice. It seems that the battery operated rice lights in 100 strands are no longer available, You can only find strands of 20 or 30 and they are made for making lighted Wreaths.I have looked ever where. So I used electric lights so there is a cord hanging from the bottom that you have to plug in. The tree with the colored lights were made with 'mini' lights and it was much harder to make than using rice lights. The tree with the all clear lights is made with rice lights.which I picked up somewhere at the end of the holidays last year. I could not find muliti colored electric rice lights anywhere.
All you have to do is find or make an applique tree pattern onto a background, then quilt it as you would any quilt, then you have to punch 100 1/8" holes using a leather hole punch into the tree pattern and then then you need .101IDx.070 thick "O" rings to attach the lights into each hole. The "O" rings hold the lights in the holes, you put a "O" ring into a light then insert it into a hole then put another "O" ring over the light on the front of the tree. You can order the "O" rings form a company called McMaster -Carr they are around 2.00 for 100 and you would need 200 per

Background fabric 5/8 yard(this would be the sky part)
Floor fabric 1/4 yd (18x22)
tree fabric 3/4yd
inside border 1/4yd
Outer border 1/2 yd
Steam-A-SeamII
Backing 1yd
Binding 1/3yd
Batting 1yd(use a thin batting)
"O" rings size .101 IDx.070thickness
1/8" leather punch
1string Multi-Colored Rice lights 100

OMG!!!! That is awesome. It took my breathe away when I saw it. Use these lights in a Halloween wreath for my daughter. Thanks for sharing. Never thought of adding them to my Christmas Tree wallhanging I am working on. The web link is
