I have an extension table and find it worthless, the quilt gets caught on the corner and either moves it, or I have to get it uncaught, it moves away from the machine, etc. I might use it for quilting a small wall hanging or doll quilt, but other then that, I never use it. I do have a cardboard "quilting" table that covers my entire cutting table and I made a "slot" for my machine, it's covered with the heavy clear vinyl from JoAnn's/Hancock, taped over the boxes, which by the way are taped together so they don't move, then I spray silicone spray over it, and it works great.

I totally agree with this. They're great for piecing or quilting anything up to about 30" wide, and I wouldn't be without mine for those purposes. They're even okay for straight-line quilting on large quilts, but for FMQ that size, no thanks.

It will be amazing. You'll have so much more control. It's a good thing. You won't regret getting it. You'll use it all the time. I use it every time I use my machine.

Okay, I have borrowed my sister's extension table, and it is 16 inches by 16 inches. I have been piecing with it, and it seems a bit bigger than I want. She bought hers 12 years ago and doesn't use it much now that she has a long arm and doesn't quilt on her regular sewing machine. Hers is adjustable, a Greer. I have adjusted it pretty close to fitting my machine, though its legs are not quite tall enough. She has lent it to me, and if I decide I like it, I will buy my own.

I noticed that this size isn't available in the Sew Steady brand, though they have a smaller one and a larger one. I don't want the larger one. I have figured that out already. My space isn't really large enough.

I wish I had a quilt sandwiched to experiment with. I do have one in the making. What's the hurry, you ask? Well, I was thinking this might be a birthday present idea for my husband (for me) and the site says to allow 3-5 weeks while they custom make one. My birthday is in four weeks. (Yeah, I know...it could be a late birthday present, but my hubby isn't likely to like that idea.)

Guess I will quilt a place mat or something. That could help me decide.

Thanks for listening, and if you use the smaller size, I think it said 11 1/2 by 15, do you like it?

I have a Bernina with its own extension. Do I wish I could recess my machine into a table? YES. Would I be happy without the extension table? NO. Without it, the surface area around the needle is just too tiny.
