I agree with all the others. But after I made my first D9P, I noticed that if I had used the same fabric in the center block, it would have visually tied all the blocks together better, at least to my eye. Enjoy.........one of my very favorite, fun patterns!

One of my favorite quilts was made using the "tossed D9P" technique. I called it Seasonal Greens. I did use the same pale gray in the center blocks, but isn't necessary to do it that way.
To TOSS, just put all the quarter sections in a bag, shake it up and draw them out and sew them together!

Mixing up the lay out is how so many different quilt patterns were created in the first place. Ladies got tired of the same old thing so they mixed it up. Then they renamed it. Google log cabins quilts and see how many ways they are rearranged.

I agree with tessagin and toverly, lay the blocks out, on a bed if laying them on the floor is problematic - it is for me; then see what you think, you could be very pleasantly surprised by mixing them up.

Lay them out however you want. Stand back and look at them. If you like it sew them together. No quilt police allowed in my house. When I quilt there are no rules. Can't wait to see it.

Lay them out the way you think they look best..
