Only saw on photo with no sashing. I say no sashing!! Love it as is. Also think about the backing in regards to the red's showing through. Maybe 2 layers of batting.

I would leave it the way it is...it's beautiful with lots of movement. For the back I would do a solid
white the same white as on front. Let the front be the star of the quilt.

I'm in the 'no sashing' camp... It's like life: Parts of it overlap and flow into other parts. Sashing is an attempt to control, to keep everything compartmentalized. I hate to see really creative quilts like this ruined by sashing, just because the quilter wasn't comfortable with the freedom in the quilt. It's like putting everything in it's own cage.

I know this sounds a little artsy-fartsy Freudian or something, but it's a gut feeling I have. This quilt pattern is perfectly abstract. Why ruin that?

To me sashing makes really boring quilts. I was sorry to see people take Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion and put sashing around the blocks because they didn't understand how those shapes were supposed to play off of each other. It completely stopped the movement it the pattern... but I digress.

I think I would go with the white sashing just to help clarify the blocks from one another. If you wanted to use white to bring the blocks all to size, then you could use a red cornerstone.

Blue and white on the second quilt would be gorgeous, me thinks.

Love the red one as is but can't help wondering what it would look like with white sashings with snowballed ends in red and red cornerstones making stars. Would make red stars randomly throughout and give a little space between the blocks. I just wonder. If that makes any sense.

I prefer the sashing (maybe a white sashing) just because it lets you eye stop and look at each block.
