What a bright and beautiful quilt. Your batiks really shine on that crisp white background. Just lovely!

Oh no! I'm very interested in hearing more about this, but I'm sorry you had such trouble with it.

I was just thinking of adding a layer of wool batting (Hobbs, same as yours) to the Hobbs Fusible for my hand-appliqued quilt.

Maybe I should use Poly-Down instead? I wanted to try to add some loft to make the applique stand out, but I also plan to quilt the plain blocks with formal feather wreaths and I want the extra definition from the higher loft.

I'd love to know what problems you ran into and how you got around them if you feel like writing about it.

Thank you so much, and again, I'm sorry it gave you a headache.

thepolyparrot, you probably won't have the same problems if you hand quilt. When I was sewing on binding, the needle glided thru the wool so easy. I free motion quilted using Aurifil (my favorite). To me the wool batting was inconsistent thru out. Some areas were bunched and some were thing. I don't know how old the batting was, I purchased from a friend. It seemed to grab the needle and my juki made wierd sounds. , I was using a hopping foot. The thread shredded in places. I would change the needle often. I was using just wool. I have friends who use cotton and wool in show quilts, the quilting shows up beautifully. But then, I am impatient with quilting and just want to get it done. My cat seems to be the winner in it all. She loves to curl up on the extra batting cut from the sides.

    That's gorgeous!

I love wool batting and have used it layered with an 80/20 batting and alone.
I think you should give it another try on something small before you write it off. It gives such wonderful depth.
