As I read through all of the ideas for things that can be used, I am reminded of my mother and her sisters sharing quilt patterns by cutting them from newspapers. It thrills my heart to see the continuation of this same spirit now soooo many years later. Perhaps there is a quilter who inspired the recycle projects and "going green"

I use the cereal boxes right now, but I will have to start saving my lids too. Trying to save money here, so I hate to buy anything extra. LOL, the frugal quilter here.

I use freezer paper, cut the finished size, press onto fabric and cut out adding 1/4 seam alounce, can be used several times.

If I have drawn my pattern then I will glue it to plastic and cut out. If from a book or magazine I will do the same but only before checking the copy with the original. Some copy machines slightly distort the original.
If I am only making one, two or three of a shape then I will cut the pattern from the paper. Put some double side tape on the back and place on fabric and then with the ruler will add the seam allowance as I cut.
Anything you use should be strong enough not to distort the edges when marked.

I use template plastic or cereal boxes when I need a pattern.

I totally agree with the cereal boxes. You can make any size you want and they can be used over and over/ :-)

If it is not a quilt pattern, I use newsprint. I had a lot left over when my mom moved.
