I just finished three rag quilts. One with batting between two layers of flannel, one with cheap flannel between two layers of flannel, and one with just two layers of flannel. They are all soft and cuddly, but I think the one with just two layers of flannel will not not provide very much in the way of being warm. I think my favorite of the three is the one with cheap flannel as the batting.

Fleece works too. just a note polyester batting ( if you used it) would probably hold up better than the cotton batting with alll the washing a drying these quilts will get

I have plenty of that! So should I cut the fleece in squares also, but make them one inch shorter than my actual flannel blocks?

Just noticed your avatar. That's beautiful. Is it a quilt you made?
