When I use to hand quilt, I basted with a starburst effect and then basted from that, always start in the center. Don't know how easy hand quilting would be with the fleece backing. I always kept the quilt on the table, easiest for me.
Now I only machine quilt, large stiple or meander, much faster and prettier than my hand quilting, easier on my hands.

Your quilt is so sweet.Almost makes me want to hand quilt....but will leave that to you.The little I've done was without a hoop,with layers saftey pinned together.A hoop makes it easier to keep the back smoth, but, still...check it often.
