You can also use the dryer sheet in your hand to gather it up til the furry-ness is gone 1 sheet is all I ever use and my kitty has very long hair

the painter's tape trick works great. It can even pull hair shafts from flannels and fleece. the dryer works too bbut the tape doesn't use any electricity...

Give the cat some catnip, wait a bit the first time....till it gets woosy....Put the vaccum cleaner in a closet if you can, and stroke it with just the end of the hose, sucking up the hair. It is the noise they hate!
....works on the quilt too!

I use a yellow rubber glove.(put it on your hand) I just hold the material, chair, bedspread, etc taught and keep pulling the cat hair towards me. It piles up and I through it away. My cat sits on the same chair and at this time of year the chair becomes a fur chair.

I have a suggestion that really works for me...use the latex gloves like you use washing dishes etc...spritz them lightly with water and then rub them firmly across the area w/cat-hair..works good on furniture..you could also use the disposable latex surgical gloves..(they make these in (non-latex) as well
