I like you! I like the way you think! It would be fun to have a contest and see which quilt had neat perfectly clipped threads and which was the messy thready backs...after all finished with backing etc.!

I cut my threads as I go. This was drilled into me in Home Economics years ago. I can't stand the look of dangling threads. It only takes a second!

If my teacher saw a thread hanging we would immediately go down a grade. Last year when my granddaughter had sewing I was telling her the same thing. She got in the habit of cutting her threads and the teacher was so impressed she gave her extra credit.

A friend of mine just went to a quilt show and there were some quilts with hanging threads. I can't believe they would even allow one to be shown that way.

My auto cut only leaves 1/4 inch...I have a Janome 6600...check to see if you can adjust the length of the thread...

Amen (smile).
Me too. Seems there's a lot of us with very good teachers!

That is sweet! Is is an air clip where you step back on the pedal? Many industrials are that way, and once you get used to the air clip it is hard to go home and sew on your home machine.

Mine leaves about 1/2-3/4". I only clip if I have been sewing with dark threads and there are some light fabrics involved.

I'm starting to sew more with gray and cream and just let the auto cutter take care of it

I agree. I wish my machine cut them shorter, because now I have to trim them.

i just always consider the threads on the back as extra warmth the quilt can provide!
LOL :)

I, too, clip as I go. I guess this comes from general sewing but probably more from needlepoint and cross stitch. I was always taught with those art forms that the back of your work needed to be as neat as the front! Granted I don't go quite as crazy with quilting as I do with the others but I'm not too far off!
