I really think it is a bed runner for the foot of the bed. They are so decorative and some so beautiful. They add nice color and interest.

Sounds like a Bolster, to cover pillows.

Bolster cover. You put a long round pillow in it, tie with ribbons and put on bed....can be used under neck, but usually was for decoration.

I am teasing a little, but I am going to really do it!
I would put a roll of batting in it, tie the ends, and put it on my spare bed, or my own bed as a way to make a cumbersome roll of batting invisible until I needed it!!!
I hope y'all laughed with me! Jeannie

Actually, a very cute idea. I gather you are talking about the long roll by the yard batting, rather than packaged batts? If I were going to hide one, I would just make a flat piece of fabric, sides hemmed, with eyelet or trim to match your guest room deco on the ends, and roll the batting in it. Just place it on the bed, or if you have frequent guests and it gets moved a lot, bast it in with 4-5 stitches per foot. Easier than stuffing a batting into a long open pillow case, no? :-D

Great idea! I actually have one of those and it would free up some space on the shelf under my cutting table. Don't want to put it on the bed that DH and I use because I would have to store it somewhere when I go to bed at night and there is nowhere to put it except on the floor. (would probably trip over it in the middle of the night) Yeah! I finally have a use for it. Thanks! Ann in TN

A long time ago in Europe they used a long "pillow" across the head of the bed, on which they'd rest the individual pillows. Could it be a cover for that long "pillow"? Or, as someone else suggested, to store pillows or a bed cover or blanket in when not in use?
