Tippysmom - how far are you from Atlanta? If you really want some machines to learn on, I could bring you a few when I head south in a month. I've offered them to a few other people but no takers so far. I really want them out of the shed before winter.

In my area, i used to see them ALL THE TIME at thrift stores, now they sell like hotcakes. The last 5 years there seems to be way less available as they get snatched up super quick. I'm thinking its because of the huge influx of people into my city, the popularity of sewing again, and the fact you can fix them yourself for free with the help of online info.

Garage sales have been my best location for old machines, but I screen the ads and am selective about where I go. I imagine I have missed a lot, but I only want to drive so much.

The best ever sale was the estate of the Singer repairman. I have never seen so many machines -- he had them in sheds, plus the garage was full. Also there were tons of manuals and attachments.

There is much fun in the hunt!
