    This may sound silly, but are you sure you have the same thread in the bobbin as you have on top. Mine did something like that once and I found that I was in a hurry and had picked up the wrongly bobbin and had cotton thread on top and poly. in the bobbin. I was about ready to pull my hair out by the time I found out my mistake.

    Sparkling embroidery thread or metallic thread, use a needle labled for metal thread.

    Use a top stitch needle (bigger eye) and match it to the thread. You want 50 or 40 weight thread, but Coats and Clark is not known to be the best. If you change the needle and still have trouble with a test spool of Aurifil thread, then come back and we will trouble shoot further.

    With the Pfaffs there is a half-way down position for the presser foot. As you lower the presser foot lever, apply a slight pressure towards the back of the machine and you should feel it slip into position about half way down. This engages the tension disks so proper tension is applied to your thread as it goes through the machine. Hope this helps your problem. In my experience, no amount of changing needles or thread will help unless the tension disks are engaged.

    Quiltmama2 is right about the presser foot on the Pfaffs. It works that way with the darning foot.

    Do you have the instruction manual for that machine? Read about "how to darn" and that should give you some clues as to how to do it. The info will work for free motion quilting, also.

    madquilter and quiltmama22 info about the presser foot position is IMPORTANT and does make a huge difference. It's a subtle thing - - -
