Are you sure the embroidery on the second one is done by machine? People had (and have!) some awesome hand sewing skills. Count me envious on your finds!

Great find. I need to stay away from estate sales too but I know I am hopelessly hooked. Actually I wonder why people shop any other way. Lol

You found some treasures - there was lots of talent way back when; although, it was mostly hand work. Thanks for sharing.

yes, it is machine emb. The flower stitches are very intense and too perfect to be handwork and the little shield at the bottom of each block identifying the state is "boilerplate"...but none the less, lots of work putting it together...those stars in the sashing and border are hand appliquéd and the whole thing is hand quilted, the body simply (ha) in diagonal channels, border follows the scallops.....so much work put into it. Sadly, not wanted by anyone in family, or maybe there was no one left?.............

My thoughts about the white, looks like some feed sack white I have. BUT I do see some prints like I have from my MIL's scrap bag, 30's. The yellow and green are from the same time frame.
When those gals got a sewing machine they used it for quilts.
You did great to adopt them both.
