Trust me, I'm a think outside of the box kind of girl but I like the first one. If you want to add interest and give the eye a place to rest, why not add some sashing?

That was just the 140 blocks laid out on the floor and I took a digital picture of both layouts. The colors will be more dispersed through out the whole quilt.
After getting started putting the blocks together, I am so glad I went with the first view. Thanks all for the imput. Sometimes you just need someone else's different perspective on things.

It's really hard to choose, but I think I like the 1st one best.

I prefer the first one...the second is too busy , in my opinion. But you have the vision ....so go for it.

I agree with your DH on the first one, the second one is too busy, IMO!! It's your quilt, do whatever makes you happy!

Boyfriend and I both like #1 (one color) better. I see the pattern better, and he says "the pattern gels better for me".
