    just a question . . . do long arm machines quilt how you "tell" them to or are they computerized that you load pick a design and walk away? I know it's dumb but, I have never seen one "in person".

    Both. The lower-end machines are all manual where you have complete control over the quilting and it's you doing all of the effort; the higher-end machines are computerized and can be set to do all of the quilting for you at the push of a button, or you can do it.
