Does anyone else have a poor concept of body size?

When I was really obese, I didn't think I was as big as I was. It wasn't until I saw a full body photo did I realize how large I really was. Now that I am losing weight, I think I am larger than I really am. At times I think I'm thinner than I am. I should take a photo of me naked so I could get a proper prespective of how I really look.

When I was younger I would go to the doctor and he would tell me to gain weight, but I didn't think I was to thin, I thought I was on the heavy size.

Weird?

As long as I don't see myself in a mirror I think I am a skinny woman.

We have a spot of rain in my neighborhood this morning, but nothing like I see happening farther north. TruPeach, I am really grateful that you allow a wide range of topics on this thread. I think it gives us the opportunity to get closer to members we 'click' with. I really like this much more than SparkPeople because our common interest of quilting is our bond. I guess I could join a Quilters team on Spark, just never have. Cyberfriends come and go, something I hate. I have a tendency to get attached to people I connect with.

I wanna know what quilting you are working on? I am hand quilting a top that was hand pieced by my great grandmother. She used scraps from fabrics that Mom made my school clothes from. I am on the last full block before the border blocks. I won't allow myself to begin a new project until I finish this one. That rule has been fairly motivating, but I admit, I am so ready to be done with it. I met my good friend Daphne as a result of the following that I posted :

My time is up for now. Have a blessed weekend.

Carol, standing in front of my bathroom mirror is all the photo I need.

Before my last baby, I was 118# and working to remove some flabby pockets. How I wish I was 118 again WITH the flabby pockets. I think you are exactly right - I never see myself as heavy when I AM heavy, and I am never too thin.

The phrase "No such thing as being too rich or too thin."
(altho I have seen photos of models who looked like they were malnourished.)

Ok, now I really do need to do other things!

CarolJ,
Body image is something I deal with, also. I even wrote a paper on it entitled, "I Ain't Got No Body". LOL! Distorted perception of our bodies often creeps over into negative feelings towards our whole self, where we deny our good qualities and abilities.

I tend to think "whole hog". If I am fat, I am ugly, if I am ugly, I am worthless, if I am worthless, what's the point of living?

That's why I am working so hard on positive affirmations. I have to change this distorted, negative thinking and focus on what I DO contribute and how I AM succeeding.

Keep on going! You will accomplish your goals!
