Welcome from Iowa! make something simple to start with like the rail fence. I took a class and that is what I started with. It was a pillow cover so it was something I could get finished easily. Been hooked ever since

Welcome from Indiana! You've already made a great start by joining the board. I agree, maybe a simple 9 patch. Is there anywhere near you that you can take a beginner class?

Also there are great tutorials online on u-tube that show you from start to finish how to do something. You can go throu a pile of techiques and understand them. Pus the tricks to make it faster and easier, in short order.

PS Raised our kids in Sydney. LOVED it there!

Welcome - check out your local quilt store (LQS) and see if they have classes. Don't know if you have quilt guilds there, but, if you do, I'd check that out too. When I lived there, I was still raising kiddies and didn't have time to sew. Now, it's pretty much all I do.

I have 5 grandkids in Grose Vale, NSW (haven't even met 2 of them)

Good luck.
