Tilt it up at the back so that you can see the front and your stitching easier. In other words, tilt it toward you so that the back is higher than the front.

I bought 2 lifts from Debbie Umphress and they work well.
I use for piecing, but remove for the limited machine quilting that I do.
I have several friends who use 2 or 3 door stops and that works just as well.

Yes, I tilt my machine. I use the little foam waffle like (for lack of a better description) coasters from the dollar. 4 to the package for a buck. Works great.

I don't but my one of my good friends does! She thinks it helps her see the sewing area!!! :D

I keep forgetting to do that, but one idea I received was to take two door stoppers and place them at the back of the machine to tip it forward. When I remember to do it, it has worked well. I keep moving my machine and forget to put them back.

I heard this a while back and I set blocks under the legs of my table and it really makes a diffrence in how I sit at the machine. This is a great tip.

I have one of the old Singer Slants. Personally, I don't see that much difference.
