I too only prewash if I have dark colors, I really like to work with the sizing still in. I always wash when I am done before giving or selling

I just came from another thread where she hadn't prewashed and the batiks bled into her background fabric  I ALWAYS prewash with a scrap of white cotton to see if there's any bleeding. The only exception, like a previous poster said is fabric for kaleidoscope quilts. :D I'd rather invest that little bit of time and effort than risk ruining hours of work. Plus I kind of enjoy the process of washing and pressing as 'welcoming' new fabrics to my stash. But perhaps I'm a bit weird!

Always per wash unless it is to be chenilled or I am making a rag quilt.... I do not want any surprises after I do all that work to get fadeing or some fabrics shrank more than others. Or wrinkled t the hitl and looks awfull

I actually wash before and after. The only exception is if I am using jelly rolls or any of the other precut fabrics.

I wash my coored fabrics... not white on white for example. I just bought some red and blue fabric to finish out my red/white/blue pinwheel quilt. Washed the red and blue... blue was fine. Had to use almosta whole box or Shout Color Catchers to clean up the red. Wow! Red does not always run but this cloth was a marathon. Think I have it clean and ready to add to my quilt. I pick and choose what I prewash. I would have been devastated if I had not washed the red.

I always wash, always. For 2 reasons. One bleeders and the other shrinkage. When making a large quilt you can have substantial shrinkage and then it just doesn't fit the bed right anymore and after going through all the work of making it, you want it to fit. :)
