I honestly don't know. I like simple patterns. Sometimes I don't think my experiences with quilts are developed enuf to know the difference.

I love them all! I do tend toward more modern quilts because it gives me freedom to work 'outside the box' but now I'm starting on some old fashioned classic pattern to teach myself some dicipline in matching corners, measuring, etc.

I love traditional patterns. For fabrics, I lean toward traditional florals along with more modern blenders and batiks.

I am like you as I prefer older/traditional patterns and fabrics but I do LOVE the new methods of cutting and piecing. I LOVE the look of hand quilting but I rarely hand quilt any longer as I prefer the speed of machine quilting. My two most favorite quilt shops specialize in traditional fabrics:
Quilter's Station in Lee's Summit, Missouri
    Homesteader Quilting in Mexico, Missouri
    and...okay...one more:
Prairie Quilts in Hennessey, Oklahoma (but they have a very small selection of traditional fabrics but it's in a small rural community, in a very old building and the staff is just about as nice as they come!
