I guess how I really put this in perspective is that when I sew a garment I am meticulous with pressing. I use all the methods on a seam, set it, use pressing aids to get the seams open, or flat, make sure the corners are good. I have found if I do all that the garment looks and even fits better. That is usually the last time anything sees an iron, but the results carry over into the garment even when washed later. There is no downside to do what may be extra pressing on a garment or a quilt, but there may be an upside.
