The first CS I used Civil War fabrics that a friend donated to me. The second I made from my scraps made them at the same time so it made it easier.

I love the colors Bonnie has chosen I think I have enough between scraps and FQ's the yellow I have a 1 yard piece that is bright but not enough, have a second piece of yellow 2 yards but not really a bright yellow. May just go scrappy with the yellow too we will see. I have black but considering using brown instead. I had planned on using pink and brown before she annonced the colors. Or who knows may go with yardage of each and not go scrappy. Well at least we have a month to mull over our choices

I've never done one of her mystery quilts before, but I'd like to try it.

After looking over the fabric requirements, I've already run into a question. She gives the yardage needed for each color of scraps. For example, it says you'll need 2-1/4 yards of black scraps. How are we supposed to know if the scraps we have onhand are large enough? Like ... what if my black scraps are 2-1/2" strips, but when it's time to use the black fabric, the instructions want us to make (say) 6" black squares. Obviously, my 2-1/2" strips would be too small, unless I piece them together. I've got a lot of small scraps I'd like to use up, but I'm not sure they'd be large enough.

    Maybe I'm overthinking this.

you aren't over thinking, you are a smart woman. Take the clues as they come.
One thing you could do if faced with the above problem is sew the blacks back together to make that block size, believe me, it will only add to the beauty of the finished project.

    Christine,
I love your Celtic Solstice and your Easy Street & Orca Bay - aren't our Orca's different?. (Easy Street seemed to me to have the most people to adhere to the original palette) I really love how we all are doing the same mystery and they all have a character all there own. Love Bonnie Hunter.

Went to Lowe's today and got the color samples. Yes I did feel guilty about not buying anything. What a difference it made in fabric selection. All of a sudden my stash had all the fabrics I needed. Yet again it seems I will be following BH color palate. I don't really mind, it seems that stepping outside my normal color choices broadens my perspective for the next quilt I make.

I picked out my colors, which are different than Bonnie's but should be fun to work with. Going through my scrap closet led to reorganizing everything, so it became a long morning in the sewing room, but oh, what fun! Now to get everything else finished so I'll be ready before the first clue comes out...

Joann's has W&N on sale so I got a king sized batting today for 1/2 price plus an extra 20% off, so that's covered too.

Moonrise, I'm pretty sure Bonnie usually doesn't use bigger than 3 1/2 inch strip pieces in her mystery quilts. Does that sound right to others?

You know, I think don't any of Bonnie's quilts that I've done had any piece bigger than 3.5. ". I pulled all my strips of that size. If We need 2.5, then I'll pull those out. Pretty exciting!

Thanks, y'all! I've got a busy weekend coming up, but I'll dig into my scraps next week and see what I can find. I already know I'll have to go shopping for the yellow. Darn. I just hate that! he he

I got the color cards today but didn't feel guilty about not buying anything. I think DH has one of everything Lowe's sells. LOL. The yellow color card slot was empty. The paint employee said one woman came and took the whole pile of several colors and she restocked them all but the yellow. I asked her if Lowe's paid for the color cards and she said no.

The link to this year's mystery quilt is:

    http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/gra...n-mystery.html

Since I didn't see a dedicated thread to this year's mystery, I went ahead and set one up in the "Blocks of the Month" section. If a thread was already started elsewhere, let me know and I'll have Patrice delete the one I set up.
