Thanks for all the nice comments! To follow up on the story, my friend had totally forgotten she even made this. She was really happy to see it today....
The chicken pattern can be found at: www.memesquilts.com, there is even a free chicken pattern available. This was not part of the pattern series, but was assembled as a stash buster.
