I just ran across this block in the book “1000 Great Quilt Blocks” by Maggie McCormick Gordon. It is on page 281 and she calls it “Egyptian Lotus Flower.” In her rendition she places it with another pieced stem and leaves block and 2 plain blocks. I’d love to post a pic but doubt that would be kosher.

Just wanted to mention that others have used a very fine, see through, Tulle fabric over some of these older quilts and was able to preserve them. I would think they didn't get much use after repairing.

Edited to add: I just realized this thread is a couple of years old. Whatever became of the quilt?

It sure looks like "Century of Progress" from the Chicago World's Fair.

I second the request for a copy of the pattern, if you draft it. It looks like a wonderful scrap buster, as well as a planned fabric design. Thank you so much if you can share it.

I've never seen that block and I thought I've seen them all! I love antique and vintage quilts.

I hope this is helpful. I drew it using 1/4” grid, but you could do it yourself using my grid. Just divide each side into three, then connect the dots.

I to have never seen this block. But i am following this post. If any one comes up with this block's name or how to recreate it I would love to make a quilt using this block...I see so many wonderful quilts on this site...I always add them to my list. Now that I am retired I can get some quilts made And just think when a fellow quilter who walks into your bedroom and see a quilt made from this quilt block would be asking" Oh please tell me what is that blocks name. I sure hope someone can figure out the name of the block and how to make it

Quilting from the Heartland has a similar block but with more detail - they have the templates for it & calling it "Cleopatra's Fan"
    https://qheartland.com/collections/f...cleopatras-fan

Shar Jorengson (Quilting from the heartland) aso has an instructional video on You Tube to go with the pattern.
