The squares in this particular quilt top "began life" at 3.5"
so the original 9 patches are 9.5" (unfinished) and the "disappeared" (yes I know it's probably not a word I'm not illiterate.. just a little silly) 9 patches are 9" unfinished.
I have made this pattern several times. I have started with 3.5" squares.. 5" squares and 6.5" squares..
Think I'm going to try an even smaller square next time.. hmmmm..

Hi Tippy: Thank you for the instructions. I just finished my May DQ and thought I was doing the DP9, but I cut from corner to corner instead. It is still okay, but wasn't what I was trying to do. Now I know what I did wrong. Thanks again.

thanks so much. I was wondering what the D9P quilt was supposed to look like. I will have to try to make one soon.

I am doing one of those right now. I bought four charm packs of the Martinique by Moda collection. I had kinda planned on making the quilt that Moda designed for it, but after much study, decided it was way above my skill level. There is another cute pattern, a schniddles one that I really like, but it turns out very small.

I found a tutorial for doing this online and decided I could maybe handle it. My only problem was trying to figure out which of the over forty prints to put together in a random way. I don't do random too well. I ordered more fabric and plan to do a sashing and some borders, but I have no idea what size it will end up.

I just hope it turns out somewhat as nice as I have it pictured in my head. This will be my first real quilt of any size so I am a bit worried. I have made numerous baby quilts and mini's, but nothing I can wrap up in.

Of course the piecing is just the beginning, Then I have to figure out how to quilt it. I don't even want to think about that yet.

You may have come up with an awesome idea. "Mistakes" are sometimes the best ideas.

I will let you see and then decide :-) Hope my May DQ partner isn't looking.

Upper left and lower right are the blocks cut from corner to corner. The biggest problem I found was that the blocks didn't line up like they did before I made the cuts. Maybe if I cut all 4?
