Any 15x1 needle will fit your FW...the needle SHOULD go in with the flat of the needle to the left. You can use your regular machine oil on it, and be SUPER frugal on oiling the motor....more than one motor has bit the dust because of over-zealous oiling! ;)

Where do you find the model 221 on the machine? I can find the serial number , but not that one. What does that number really stand for?

I just got a 1/4 inch foot for my Featherweight this week. They have other feet that were not made when the machines were new that are helpful for quilting. www.April1930s.com 208-88008887 was my source.

A lot of the machines have a small plate under the Singer seal that says 221, often with a "J". "K" or "1". 221 is the model number (just as the first Singer I ever bought was a 237). If you aren't sure what your model number is, go to this site and find your serial number. http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html
