 Thank you all so much for your kind words about my quilt. I still find it hard to believe that my first entry into any kind of competition met with the success it did.

I entered the Hoffman Challenge because I loved the paisley fabric...took me right back to my college years in the late 60's. To me, it was not a question of competition with other quilters, but about challenging myself to meet a goal that I had never even thought possible before. I am a solo quilter from a small rural town and this would be my very first competition since high school field hockey! To have my work critiqued by judges at that level would be amazing. I was excited, scared, eager, and insecure all at once.

To have my entry accepted as part of the travelling collection was beyond my wildest dreams. It was the only 2009 quilt from New Hampshire that was chosen to travel and that makes me very proud that all the materials were provided by New Hampshire retailers and all the work was done by New Hampshire craftsmen (it was machine quilted in barter for computer services).

I would do it again in a heartbeat if the fabric ‘spoke’ to me and I will definitely enter other works in other competitions, not because I think I’m good, but because I want to be better. I often hear people say, “I’m not good enough to enter something like that.” Of course you’re good enough to enter. And with every entry, you receive judges’ comments. And if you listen and learn from those comments, you grow and improve. And if you do that often enough and work hard enough, someday you’re not only good enough to enter; you’re good enough to win. The title of the quilt sums it all up…Away We Go!

What an honor--and obviously well deserved. Beautiful quilt.

    Janet,
I'm really looking forward to seeing your lovely quilt at QT, which was featured in my QT email yesterday. One of my favorite things about visiting them is getting to see the wonderful quilts they have on display. Now that I know you're a member of this board, I'm even more eager to see it. Congratulations, you should be very proud of yourself.
