I used q-tips with another rust out product and got all the spots out of a 60 year old quilt..they were actual rust stains from pins being left in the quilt.

I've always had good luck with a paste of oxyclean left on to soak a little while. Sometimes a repeat application is to be needed.

Whink is still available and it does work on rust. May needto goto a hardware store but I believe WalMart has it.

Oxalic acid crystals mixed into a little water and sponged on the rust stain will take it out. Then rinse well. You can buy the crystals at any drug store, but may have to ask the druggist, some stores keep it behind the counter.

I just saw a video that showed water, a qt of buttermilk and juice of 1 lemon, mix in a big bowl and let soak to get rid of stains on old quilts.

I have used lemon juice and sun. Also the new Tide has a spot remover in it and I was not aware but when my laundry was done I noticed a spot on an old T shirt was gone. It had been washed & dryed in the dryer several times.

Can buy it at Walmart. I use it for various bathroom cleaning. It is pretty strong. Don't know that I would put it on a quilt though.
