There was a member that had purchased some very expensive strips from "Stonehenge" that were so bad they could not be used. I don't recall who it was. If I remember correctly, she finally was able to contact someone from the company about it.

I've only bought one jelly roll; it was Moda and on sale at my LQS. I normally cut my own strips; I don't mind the cutting and can do the size strips I want. I have also traded, so have a large variety.

As well as, how many blocks are in a charm pack?
Most jelly rolls have 40-42 strips (Modas) and I think all their charm packs have 42 squares now. Some of their previous ones had less.
Other manuf. vary a lot, from 20 charm sq to 40 etc Don't know about other strips/rolls

You know how lots of times you don't have enough in a jelly roll to do what you want. I think cutting my own is good. The only time I have bought pre-cut fabric is when I found a deal.

I bought a Fabric Freedom jelly roll that wasn't just badly cut (no pieces dead on grain; several with a strong curve; one which tapered into points at each end), but some of the fabric was filthy dirty as well. I've heard several shops refuse to stock the FF jelly rolls.

For all of you who cut the 2.5 inch strips - is that pretty much the "normal" size? In other words, does that work for pretty much most of the patterns/stuff out there to sew - sor of like the most versatile?

Second question: are any of those "strip cutting" devuices any good - or better to get proficient with the rotary cutter and ruler.

Thanks.

I buy a quarter yd extra & that gives me 3 strips with the Go, each 2 1/2".Other sizes/cuts will be done as needed for a particular pattern.

I cut my own unless it is really cheap.
