If not on the face ask Dr for Lidocaine patches I had shingles on my back and the Dr prescribe them and it helped a lot

Best advise to others.....go get a shot to prevent shingles. Doctors, drugstores and your local health department give them. Everyone needs one to prevent the sad stories about shingles :-D

Dr. can prescribe medications to help the flare-up and nerve pain. It is very painful!

I had my first bout of shingles 6 months ago. I saw doctor, was given Lyrica(sp) and loritab for pain. The lyrica helped alot and took the pain meds only for sleep. Dr stressed to take the meds for the full cycle. Okay so far. It was sure surprised by the pain. Good luck.

Not everyone can have the shot. Go to the link I posted above....there's a section on that site that states who can NOT have the shot.

I've had shingles twice, the first time on my waist and the second on my neck. The neck was worse because I got headaches and they lasted four months.

I was told that once you have had shingles, the vaccine will do you no good. Don't know how accurate this is.

This is a good time for anyone over 60 to get their shot. They have them and most insurance companies will pay for them. If them catch them in 72 hours they can get shot too. Don't wait. Get your shot NOW. I have mine.

Just now after 7 weeks of pain from shingles, I'm feeling better. Ibuprofen, excedrin, and vocodin helped the discomfort. I'd say the best remedy is time.

They don't give you antibiotics, but there is an antiviral med they give.

When I had mine it was on the bottom of my back and across to the front. Soaking in a tub helped a little.
