Glad u have an better thread holder and tell your brother what an awesome one that he made & the "crowd" is going bannas over his invention! would love to know if he would make a couple more and see how it sells?
As for the wooden bar at the bottom....i think its to keep the thread cone from bouncing around?

What a great brother you have. The wire looks like the ends of saftety pins, too. So cute and creative.
Your brother sounds like my was. Mine passed in 2006, and I miss him so much. We were always so close and he would do anything for me.
