I use both - think they are the most important tools for the sewing machine.

Definitely get the 1/4" foot. If you have enough funds, I'd purchase the walking foot. But, I would use the 1/4" before the walking foot.

I find my most important parts of my sewing mach. are my 1/4" foot with side bar, walking foot, & an open toed FMQ foot. When I work on a quilt, I am constantly changing feet to suit where I am on my project.

Get both you will need them. I don't know what I would do without my walking foot.

I use the walking foot when quilting small things such as a crib quilt or a wall hanging also it is a must for rag quilts and i do admit I never use the quarter in foot ever I find that mine is just a bit too large.I use my super long armer RoseMynes on this board for any thing larger.

I use both the walking foot and 1/4 inch foot all of the time. They have been a good purchase for me.
