Why do we get so attached to our sewing machines?

I don't know! Right now, I have my 1973 Singer touch&sew sitting here, with the gear that operates the feed dogs GONE! It was rubber & broke off! Was willing to let it go, couldn't use any of the decorative stitches , the core that holds the cams is cracked & not replaceable.Was told at last cleaning, she was on last legs! ready to let go, THEN my sister says, "you could just quilt w/it-NO FEED DOGS!"hmmmm, funereal delayed, BUT now(2mos) I think its time to say good bye!

I am the same way about my fabric, too. Sewing and quilting is my art form of choice and the machine is an extension of myself when creating.

I love 2 of my machines (the Pfaffs) but absolutely love my new refrigerator too! It has a bottom freezer that pulls out. It is so much easier to see what I have in the refrigerator part now. Heaven!

Now my stove is another story......

The very first thing I bought when I married in 1957 was my Singer 401A. I still have her and love her even though I have bought others. They are my way to get away from stress and enjoy my art.

I think for me it is like with my truck. After awhile you learn all of their little hiccups and noises. Like your vehicle you learn when something is sounding wrong, you learn when the stitches are not working quite right, they become your friends and your confindant. They see your imperections. I have one that doesn't quite work right and my father-in-law was the only one who can seem to get it in running order, but he is gone now so it sits in its case in a closet in the garage. I just can't bare the idea of getting rid of it. It gave me such loyalty for quite a few years.

I don't think it's any different from a guy attached to his car. It actually didn't bother me to get rid of my sewing machine. It's my fabric I don't want to use.
