I want to try this technique to have a hand project and to improve my applique skills. I got a two fabric kit, but do not have the right equipment to transfer the design to the dark batik fabric. I am eager to get started. Hope I can improve the quality of my skills enough to complete it and not need to hide it away!

i'm in Honolulu right now with every intention of making it to the Hawaiian Quilting class given every saturday morning at the Queens' palace before i leave in two weeks. The patterns are made by snowflake cutting technique however they do end up looking like something specific, eg., Breadfruit, Hono (sea turtles) etc. What i find different is that the pattern extends to the edge of the whole cloth they are appliqued upon

Thanks for explaining the technique. I have been really daunted by Hawaiian quilts -- so much so that I have elected to do an embroidered technique. You explained it well; now I'll try the real technique.

Please give us your opinions about the Sat. a.m. tutorial.

I love applique and just as soon as I finish my West of Baltimore quilt that I've been working on since 2007 (working on 4 corner and 4 connecting strips) I'm going to try my hand at Hawaiian quilting. And a bag is the perfect way to show off quilting. Thanks.
