Check out my Avatar. The pattern is from the book by Cindy Casciato's Block Explosion. Purchased it at Joann's. Simple & easy from wall hangings to queen size quilts.

I would do a search for Billy Lauder (not sure if that is how she spells her first name) but she has great short cuts that make even the nine patch so much fun to make. I also love to watch Eleanor Burns, she has great tips too. Have fun, and just enjoy it.

You could try the one I did for my daughter (below).

http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-60895-1.htm

It was very easy, the blocks were large and it took very little time. (I did make a queen where the pattern called for a lap quilt). It's from Pat Sloan's book "I can't believe I'm quilting beyone the basics" here is the book on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Sloans-Believe.../dp/1601406827

What ever you decide, I wish you the very best! It's great fun!

I found the friendship star to be quite easy. I make my blocks so they are 12" x 12".

My first quilt was a 9 patch. That was so long ago that I don't remember if my corners lined up or not, probably not. How about a 4 patch alternated with a -plain block of the same size. Plain blocks like that can be surprisingly attractive.
