Baby spitting up/projectile vomit. what to do??? help please.

son and dil took their adopted baby to the army base dr NUMEROUS times and were blown off, son researched online and figured it was pyloric stenosis - drs got real snotty with him, they finally took baby to hospital er and was sent for EMERGENCY SURGERY for .... are you ready .... pyloric stenosis...
grandson is fine now, but he almost died because of smartass doctors...

Youngest son was allergic to all the formulas...we had to drive to a dairy and get ENZLAC. Sorry can't remember the correct spelling...it's been 28 years. It was a ultra pasturized goat milk formula. We had to get 2 weeks worth at a time, due to spoilage. I remember that it was almost $2 a quart back in '83.

He is gaining weight, but not at the rate he should be. He's gaining about 1/3 of what he should. The peditrician said he was okay, we'd get it figured out, but I just feel like I don't have the option to be patient anymore. Some have suggested probiotics and I'm thinking about trying that. I called the doctor (second doctor so far) to see what his thoughts are, I just want to make sure there isn't a reason to NOT give him probiotics.

If he's only gaining 1/3 of what he should, my next step would be to consult another doctor. Sounds like you're already on to that. The right doctor is the one who listens to and respects your concerns, and spends more time taking care of the patient than the ego. While I completely respect the learnedness of doctors, keep in mind that they are there to serve you, not the other way around. Trying to find the solution to what's ailing your child often feels like shooting darts in the dark. It can be very frustrating when you know something's not right but don't know the proper course of action to take. I'll keep you in my thoughts as you struggle with this and hope a resolution is found soon.

For my child the Dr. suggested feeding less and stopping him like during the feeding and burping more often. Sometimes they eat too fast. It stopped for my son. Good luck.

I had the same problem with oldest son (now 49) Finally had to put him on reg whole milk from grocery store.(Not raw Milk).He still vomited at times but not nearly as frequently. However keep on those doctors.Get second opinions. A retired nurse speaking here. Good luck.

baby can have intolerance to mothers milk if she is drinking or eating ANY type of dairy

Find a different doc. NOW! I have some friends (couple) just had a baby in March. 6 weeks old, little guy starts the vomit thing. They think he has the flu, and can wait until the 6 week checkup in 2 days. Doc says, no, take him to ICU. They did. The next thing they know, they're on a medivac flight to Seattle (we're in Anchorage) and he's scheduled for open heart surgery. He'll grow out of it? How long? What are the reprocussions of him projectile vomiting over an extended period of time.

Move on, and move fast.

Try giving your baby a few drops of Mylanta infant gas drops before feeding him the bottle. (there is another brand as well but it is not coming to mind) And if after they have drinkin the bottle and are still gassy I gave another drop or two of the drops. You can find the infant gas drops in the pharmacy aisle with other gas relief stuff like rolaids, tums etc..or ask your pharmacist. My kids lived on this stuff and I had no more projectile vomiting or gassy tummies. And believe me my first born he could hit a wall across the room before I gave the infant gas relief drops a try. I feel your pain...hope it works for ya!

He's now a healthy 34 yr old.....amazing how mothers were able to take care of their children just fine until doctor's started telling us what to do. My doctor threw up his hands and told me to find someone else...he couldn't condone me feeding the kid a bottle..LOL -- I did -- we were all happier.

OP -- yes, time to find another doctor!
