Moth balls are poisonous and children may think they are candy.

    5 parts flour

Any citrus peel on top of the soil will repel cats. Things that keep them from digging such as pine cones, aluminum foil, screen, stones, etc will also keep them from going potty in your pots. ;)
    sounds like good info here.

For indoor plants I use to cut a hole in a paper or foam plate and put it around the plant. You also might try wrapping plastic wrap over the pot. Some cats don't like getting their claws caught in it. The problem is that cats have been using that dirt and now it has an attractive (to cats) scent. It may take awhile for the scent to go away. I love the idea of planting some catnip faraway from your plants! LOL

Plant marigold around your other plants....never had one dig in that flower bed! Or use moth balls, gravel's but not mulch as they like that one!

We used the bamboo skewers and they seemed to work well. Just felt they were unsightly.

Back to the BIG question: Why is it OK for cats to do their business in someone else's yard? I don't understand that mentality on the part of the owners. If they would clean up the messes I could probably deal with it, but never has happened yet!

I know a lady who uses cayenne pepper for her trash. Don't know if it would work for plants.
