Question could be "Have you ever tired to sew, use computer, read a book, etc with a cat in your lap?" And they know when they are in the way I am positive. Try mental telepathy with them. Picture in your mind while looking at the cat where you would like it to be. Like ifyou want to hold it picture him/her in your lap stare at the cat and ifyou have good vibes between you the cat should be in your lap within a few minutes, like less than 5. Depends on the cat but it works with a couple of mine. I never tried topicture them elsewhere, but it is worth a try. Take care.

Really can identify. I have a sewing table at right angle to my machine, which gives me an open space of about a yard by a yard. My eighty pound dog CoCo is usually in the knee space and my cat is on the pieces of what ever I am trying to sew. Meanwhile the whole rest of the house is empty. Sometimes all I can do is laugh because I sure can't sew.

I am under constant supervision by a cat while I am sewing. When our newest addition to the family was a puppy, he had to be in my lap while I was sewing. Now, at 80+ pounds, he just won't fit any more.

LOL. Haven't tried that but I have tried with a mastiff's head in my lap and it doesn't work too well LOL. By the time he's done pushing his head into my lap I can't reach the sewing machine.

Ohhhhhhhh, yes, I can relate - have a momma cat and now 4 babies who are learning from her - and yes, ouchie! many times. But I love them all - would not change a thing except we'll practice "no claws" - it worked with momma cat, and she is as delicate a walker now, you don't know she is on you... and is so careful to not stick out her claws. So, now to train the 4 babies.

My cat doesn't sit in my lap, he sits in my chair and I sit on the edge of the chair. Not very comfortable, he has most of the chair. If I get up he stretches out and takes the entire chair. I've tried to bring in another chair and put it by mine but he just meows until I give in and share the chair.

One of the favorite things I've heard is that dogs have owners but cats have "staff." In my case, that is so true!

only two of my six furbabies join me while quilting. Kelly stands guard at the window in front of my machines and Mufasa, laying on top of my WIP tries to eat the stray thread. I've since had to ban them both from the room - too dangerous!

Beautiful babies and yes I have tried to sew with a cat on my lap and at the computer. Just got a new baby as I had to put my other one down a few months ago.
